Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), AED & First Aid is a recommended course. This class is designed for participants to learn and be certified in Adult and Pediatric CPR, First Aid, and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) by the American Heart Association. Topics include: breathing and cardiac emergencies; identifying and caring for bleeding; caring for sudden illness and injuries; preventing disease transmission; and AED training. This course also serves as a recertification course for CPR and First Aid.

Fire safety and extinguisher training is required for those employees who have jobs that involve laboratory processes, hot work or similar duties. Fire safety and extinguisher training is recommended for all other ISU employees.

Fire Safety and Extinguisher Training provides hands-on practice using a fire extinguisher in addition to classroom instruction. The course covers safety and emergency procedures for preventing and responding to a fire emergency. Participants learn common ignition sources of fires and good practices for the storage of flammable and combustible materials with the goal of preventing fires; what to know and do ahead of time in order to be prepared for a fire emergency; the proper steps to take in the event of a fire; when to use a fire extinguisher and how to handle the extinguisher by putting out a simulated fire.

Learners who want to practice using a fire extinguisher can attend the final 20 minutes of the classroom course to receive hands-on use of a fire extinguisher. Check the Schedule on your dashboard or call 294-5359. (The practice time is not a recorded training.)

  1. Identify discipline-based and course specific improvements to foster inclusive excellence in the classroom.
  2. Develop an individual action plan for promoting inclusion in the classroom.
  3. Become familiar with the campus resources and programs that support diversity and inclusion.

Pre-workshop learning modules will be available at least one week prior to the workshop and will be instrumental to our face-to-face program; therefore, we ask that you complete the modules prior to the event. Fire safety and extinguisher training is required for those employees who have jobs that involve laboratory processes, hot work or similar duties. Fire safety and extinguisher training is recommended for all other ISU employees.

Fire Safety and Extinguisher Training provides hands-on practice using a fire extinguisher in addition to classroom instruction. The course covers safety and emergency procedures for preventing and responding to a fire emergency. Participants learn common ignition sources of fires and good practices for the storage of flammable and combustible materials with the goal of preventing fires; what to know and do ahead of time in order to be prepared for a fire emergency; the proper steps to take in the event of a fire; when to use a fire extinguisher and how to handle the extinguisher by putting out a simulated fire.

Course Title: Radiation Safety for Materials Users - Part 4, Performance Based Training

Description:

The final part of a four part training series for individuals who intend to use radioactive materials at Iowa State University. Part 4 - Performance Based Training is a laboratory classroom session that covers practical methods for ensuring the safe use of radioactive materials. The prerequisite for this training is to complete Part 1, Part 2 and Part 3 online and successfully pass these online courses. This is a laboratory training class. Participants are required to dress for the laboratory including wearing closed toe and closed heel shoes.

Bring your completed Radioactive Material Worker Application, signed by your PI, to the Part 4 training. You will not be allowed to complete Part 4 without this application.
